Yesterday Ensemble Riho travelled the 10 hours from upper Svaneti to the capital Tbilsi to perform in the annual Art Geni Festival. After having spent a week recording a few members of the ensemble, it was thrilling to see the group in its entirety: around 30 singers, all in traditional choka dress, and phenomenal young dancers.
The good news is that I got much of it on the flip camera. the bad is that Ill have to wait a few more weeks to be able to post the audio and images of these past five weeks. Heres a raw recording of a circle dance that I mentioned a few posts back. This is the small group I recorded - Imagine it with 10 times that many basses!
