The annual Cross-Strait symposium kicks off today with a welcome dinner for the 15 incoming delegates, representing mianland China, Taiwan and the US. They join the Strait Talk committee who have been hard at work organising the event for the past year. At the casual dinner, the committee members and the delegates were able to finally meet each other. Introductions were made and conversations flowed throughtout dinner, and towards the end, even before the actual introduction games, many had already got to know each other. During introduction, the delegates shared their diverse backgroudnsa and enthusiasm for the coming events, the first of which is due to start tomorrow morning. Henry Shepherd, one of the original founding members of Strait Talk, made a special appearance through Skype to deliver some words of wisdom and his best wishes. The symposium will run for a week, and many events are open to Brown students and faculty.
